About our church

The current sanctuary has been a place of worship since it was built in 1876, although the Sunday school rooms date later than that, so there have been many Christians here before us. This gives a sense of continuity and God working through the centuries.

Barrow Baptist Church is a registered as a Charity and therefore has Charity Trustees. These meet regularly to discuss matters of the church.  We also have a team of leaders who look after the various ministries and activities of the church.

We are a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain (BUGB) and part of the East Midlands Baptist Association (EMBA). They both run lots of different activities and training and the Baptist Union also has a missionary department. See more at baptist.org.uk and embaptists.co.uk

Our purpose and beliefs

As a fellowship of believers who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, we accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God and teach that Baptism should take place when a person surrenders control of their life to Christ.  In both personal and church life we seek to be led by the Holy Spirit.

We believe that our primary purpose is to reach out to our local community with the Love of Christ, introduce people to Him, and encourage one another on a lifelong journey of faith.

Our hope is that we will be a caring community that provides fellowship and a sense of belonging for all our congregation, irrespective of age, including those who participate in our mid-week activities and events.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

Our church continues to adapt to the needs of our community and congregation. Here’s a few photos of the interior through time.
